Lighthouse plans Luminary Luncheon

The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Museum wants you to come for lunch and to learn something.

That’s the plan on March 11, when it hosts its second annual Lighthouse Luminary Luncheon at the Pelican Club, across from the beacon.

The luncheon, themed “South Florida’s First U.S. Weather Station: Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse — The History — The Impact — The Future,” will include a silent auction, program, photos and raffle. The Loxahatchee River Historical Society will present Karen Marcus, president of Sustainable PBC and a former Palm Beach County commissioner, with the 2020 Outstanding Stewardship Award for her environmental work.

WPBF TV anchor and meteorologist Felicia Rodriguez will serve as moderator and emcee for “Conversation With the Experts,” including Ken Graham, director, NOAA National Hurricane Center, Miami; Robert Molleda, warning coordination meteorologist, National Weather Service, Miami; Pablo Santos, Ph.D., meteorologist-in-charge, NOAA National Weather Service, Miami/South FL; Capt. Kristie Twining, NOAA Corps, Ret. Hurricane Hunter pilot; and Capt. JoAnn Burdian, U.S. Coast Guard commander, Sector Miami.

Serving as this year’s Lighthouse Luminary Committee are Marlene Bennett, Kim Smith, Kelly Parkey, Kimberly Valestin, Andrea Aitken, Sherry Schattie, Kelly O’Shea, Betsy Munson, Katie Newitt, Deb Schuemann, Darlene O’Donnell, Carrie Bligh, Cammi Werling, Jo Ann Jacobson, Kimberly Walestin, Kelly Sturmthal, Sally Byrd, Mary Sunshine, Bea Sallabi, Anna Erickson, Sarah Lott, Jerry Somma, Jennifer Sardone Shiner, Jamie Stuve and Katrina Heller. Honorary co-chairs of the Lighthouse Luminary Luncheon are football legend Joe Namath and philanthropist Charles Modica.
