Surf City Mayor Douglas Medlin said, “And then if you walk up and down the beach you can see steps that are covered. We’re normally after a hurricane you’d have a big drop at the end of all the walkways”
“Dorian, when it crossed Onslow Bay, had a very similar path to Matthew. Both location wise and in forwarding speed, and in Matthew we saw a little bit of a gain of sand where your eyeballs see it right at the base of the dune, The flat part of the beach, and low and behold, with Dorian, we saw almost the exact same thing.”
Several beach towns had to budget after Hurricane Florence to bring in more sand and pay contractors to rebuild the dunes. The mayor of Surf City said sand from Hurricane Dorian was a great and free way to help restore the dunes.
